Travelling by donkey through the green fields of the countryside, we begin to climb the Necropolis mountainside. At the top you will watch the spectacular sunrise over the Nile Valley. We then visit the Tombs of the Nobles, Deir El Medina temple, and the Ramesseum (Ramses II temple). Next we head to an Egyptian village to see traditional farming and have an Egyptian meal. We end the day with an opportunity to visit a bedouin handcraft market and an alabaster workshop.
Includes interpretation by an Egyptologist in the tombs and temples. Return by motor boat across the Nile.
We return to visit the souk and perhaps sit in one of the souk’s coffeeshops.
After visiting the temple, one of the most interesting on the West Bank, we continue through the desert to the monastery of Saint Pula. There you can cast a wish into the wishing well, where Egyptians have come for centuries to ask for good luck or maybe a happy pregnancy. We finish the day with a desert sunset.
We see the sand dunes and visit the Valley of the Monkey, where water trickles down from the surrounding mountains. We watch the sunset over the mountains and then have a Bedouin dinner in a tent.
From there we rise up over the pink mountains of the Necropolis to appreciate the spectacular view over the many tombs and temples. Crossing over the fields and villages we pass once again over the Nile, touching down on the East Bank.
